What to Drink with What You Eat Giveaway

There is one food-related book that really stands out on the shelves of the cookbooks that line my room. This same book has been the one book that I reach for every time I experiment with food. There is no two ways about it. It’s the one book that I would buy YOU as a gift, if you like to cook (and have some experience) and the one book that I recommend that every cook should have. “The Flavor Bible”. I wrote about it here.

Another book by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg is called “What to Drink with What you Eat”. The Definitive Guide to Pairing Food with Wine, Beer, Spirits, Coffee, Tea – Even Water – Based on Expert Advice from America’s Best Sommeliers.
It is the same concept as “The Flavor Bible” , where foods are paired and spices are matched, but this time, drinks are paired with your food.

Not only does it have wines, spirits and everything else but it also has non- alcoholic beverages. You basically look up the food that you are going to cook or eat and then you find a list of beverages that will pair well. It is a reference book that every cook should have, and anyone who likes to entertain. Even restaurants with sommeliers should have it.

It’s not a quick reading book but a useful reference book that is the easy way to quickly choose what to serve with your dish. And even better news, they have an Iphone App Too.

  1. New Reader Here! My guilty drinking pleasure is definitely a Diet Coke with chocolate sauce without ice. Not too adventurous, but definitely delicious!

  2. A classic–Kahlua, vodka, and half’n’half. Cream if I am a truly bad grrrl. Calories, up all night because I am very sensitive to caffeine, and just about no nutritional value. A dollop of Bailey’s added happens sometimes.

  3. Drinking Lindeman’s “Framboise” – I used to make fun of people who drank “fruity beer”, preferring the darker beers, IPA’s, etc. Now I thoroughly enjoy ‘fruity beer’ myself! 🙂

  4. Hi Keren! My guilty drinking pleasure is when I buy really cheap wine from Trader Joe’s (Viñas Chilenas) and “pretend” I’m making it better by dissolving cranberry Emergen-C packets into it.

  5. My guilty pleasure is dessert/ice wine after a long day at work. I really like to have a little sweet wine as a night cap before bed

  6. I love the app that goes with this book but have heard the book is a must have. I am taking food and wine pairing in the NW Wine Academy and wish this book was the textbook (from all that I have read about it, it must be good and my wine merchant recommended it too). I can’t wait to see it. And now that you have endorsed both of their books I will have to buy at least one of them. Our guilty drinking pleasure? Opening up a bottle of wine each night to test it with the meal for my upcoming final exam!

  7. My guilty drinking pleasures are (I have two) Nigori Sake and a Pisco Sour. I think that the Pisco Sour wins but I love both way too much 🙂

  9. Just found your fabulous site thru twitter! I am primarily a red wine drinker but when I’m in the mood for beer, it’s something amber to dark depending on my mood. I could definitely use help with pairing my drinks with my food, I don’t always get it qute right. I’ll retweet.

  10. Hmmmm, my guilty pleasure drink. That would have to be something I love but shouldn’t drink (or shouldn’t admit to), which would absolutely be a Coke Slurpee. Yep, I said it. Guess I seriously need this book 🙂
